Third season of “Dr. Who” starts tonight on the SciFi channel

My colleague Sean fortuitously just told me that the new season of “Dr. Who” starts tonight on the SciFi channel. The will include a special 1.5 hour season opener special and then a 1 hour regular show.

I don’t know about this new sidekick, my son William and I still miss Rose!

  1. She’s quite a worthy replacement, Bob </spoiler>.

  2. I haven’t seen the reruns but Dr Who was one of my favorite shows growing up in England in the late 1960’s. Weird & low-budget, but the only way to go.

  3. She’ll have to be. Rose was quite a kick in the side. Been something of a kick since too.

I guess this means I won’t be working at home tonight.

  4. I’m not sure how long after the UK transmissions it will appear in the US. If it’s more than a few days, then may be of interest to you; I’m sure we can jury-rig a NAT-router somewhere if the BBC try restricting Doctor Who downloads to the good-ol’ United Kingdom.

You’ll have to dust that old Windows box off, though. Proprietary standards are winning the day. Ubuntu users will be sorely disappointed, as will Apple Mac owners. And people trying .

BBC America carries adverts; BBC UK doesn’t. Apparently the UK licence fee is only allowed to pay for UK transmissions. Foreign stuff has to be self-funding.

  5. What would it take for you to add the banner to your blog to support charity? I have added it to my own and would love to see other bloggers amplify the need to stomp out poverty.

If the activism irritates you then I understand…

    James McGovern

  6. I’ll certainly a look at it, James.

  7. James, I put the white band in the upper right corner. I’ll play with that and maybe some of the other options. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

  8. Chris,
The UK season of Doctor Who has already finished, so about 3 months behind…
iPlayer as a service is DRM-limited to UK citizens, so even faking something up with a router wont help you. Best bet is to find a torrent ;)

  9. I have been known to try the ‘DVD in the mail’ route …

  10. “I don’t know about this new sidekick, my son William and I still miss Rose!”

So does the Doctor. She keeps coming up over and over again.

  11. I presume Martha is the new replacement for this season?

  12. Yes, Martha is the replacement for the 3rd season, and she’s pretty good too, although Rose is still sorely missed.

You’ve got some great episodes coming up, particularly towards the end of the season. Look out for one called “Blink”, which is one of the best single episodes ever, especially since the Doctor’s barely even in it!
