New WoW patch: The Gods of Zul’Aman

As Blizzard moves toward release of the new World of Warcraft expansion pack The Wrath of the Lich King, they today released a new patch called “The Gods of Zul’Aman.” If you are into WoW, you can go to the link and check out all the new features, of which there are many. In the basic game, the maximum level is 60. With The Burning Crusade expansion, that went up to 70, and it will further rise to 80 with Lich King.

Since it can take months to get up to the highest levels and presumably Blizzard wants to encourage sales of the expansion pack, this is one of the new features released today:

Now leveling from character levels 20-60 is faster, with less experience needed per level in that range as well as higher quest experience rewards for quests levels 30-60.

Why do I mention this? Because over the weekend I finally got my main Horde character, a Blood Elf warlock, to level 59.

“I got my high level the old fashioned way, I earned it!”

WoW remains a compelling, addictive game, but I can’t help but think that this sort of move signifies that it now well past its prime. That said, it does have over 9 million subscribers.
