Online document conversion

Alacos has just put up their Lettos online conversion tool to move documents to and from the OpenDocument Format (ODF). There is a 3.5 Mb limit on the size of the file you can translate, but that should be enough for you to test out their system.

Every day there are more and more tools to make it easier to work with ODF and they’re coming from different people. This is the future and this is why.

  1. Wow, not only is the Lettos conversion tool accurate, but it’s fast! As soon as I selected a 10-page document, it had already converted it from .doc without a single mistake. And that’s with a document that had tables with color backgrounds, headers and footers, colored text, and two images. Great link, thanks Bob.

Now let’s go the other way… oh wait, why would I wan to do that? ;-)

I tested it with a simple MS Word doc and did not get the results I would have liked. The pictures in the file didn’t pixelate too much but one of the fonts became warped and dashed lines. It wasn’t preaty.

I’m not sure if the problem orginates with their program or with my font. The font converts well with proprietary progams.

Any ideas to the cause or is it just Lettos’ bugs?

I don’t know, but I’m sure they would love to have your document as a test case.
