So how does it work in the USA ?

I imagine things are organised by state; so NY would fall under http://www.nysed.gov/ . A brief perusal of their web page would suggest striking similarities with the UK education system; ‘Ambitious but underfunded’.

What’s their take on IBM Lotus Symphony http://symphony.lotus.com/ ? Do they have a desire to drive open standards into the heart of the education system ?
