Open Standards vs. Open Source series

As you may have noticed, I just published Part 3 of a four part series on open standards vs. open source. If you are an expert in these areas, this is probably too high level for you, but I hope there is enough of an audience who finds the content useful.
I’ve collected together all three parts that have been published so far into a single essay to make for easier reading. The fourth part on SOA will be published as soon as I find time to complete it. Part 3 took a while because of extensive business travel (though it was completed in New Delhi, India). I also had to deal with rebuilding the hard drive for my laptop and starting the trip without the draft. Luckily I had a copy on my personal website and was able to download it. I hope the final installment has a much easier gestation.

As with the earlier parts, I reserve the right to go back and fix Part 3 if I discover or I am told that I’ve said something really wrong or stupid.
